A truly generational fighter, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s 28-0 record is the stuff of legend and makes him one of two current undefeated UFC champions. Coming into the UFC at 16-0 in 2011, an impressive 6-0 promotional run culminated with a decision victory over former Lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in 2014, before injury curtailed his title run for two years. After returning to action in 2016 against Darrell Horcher, ‘The Eagle’ went on to claim the vacant Lightweight belt via decision against Al Iaquinta at UFC 223 another two years later, defending twice against former Featherweights Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor. He truly shot to fame after his UFC 229 win over McGregor where an uncharacteristically violent aftermath saw him suspended for most of 2019, but did not stop him from again defending his belt in September. A tireless grappler with wearing ground-and-pound, Nurmagomedov has an impressive 10 submission victories to go with eight by knockout – constantly honing his striking game. A usually respectful champion, Khabib has shown fighters can develop their profile without the brash chat that others bring to the fore. A bout with former interim Lightweight champion Tony Ferguson looks to be next on the agenda at the fifth time of asking in April, 2020.
